Arthritis Pain

The scientists are still stumped as to what causes rheumatoid arthritis and treatment consists of heavy medications.  The condition is very painful and have a big impact on person’s life.

The good news is there are some steps you can take to offset the onset of arthritis and alleviate the severity.

  • 1.  Exercise - although you’d think this would be the worst thing for arthritis, moving your body and joints can help pain.  We’re talking mild cardio and not running 10 miles. A small amount of aerobic exercise every day will allow you to move more and live better.  If you feel a new pain then use common sense and stop.  Good choices for seniors include water aerobics, walking, and biking.
  • 2.  Watch your weight. Our country has a problem with food and keeping a healthy weight and this can be very detrimental to your physical well being when you are a senior.  Carrying extra weight adds strain to your joints causing more pain.
  • 3. Take Tai Chi lessons – Tai chi has shown to reduce pain, stiffness, and fatigue.  Tai chi is a combination of deep breathing, relaxation, and stretching.  Preliminary research shows that it improves balance for those suffering from fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis.
